Riley Snow returns to Sharks for 2025

The Southland Sharks have locked in another local talent for the 2025 Sal’s New Zealand National Basketball League with confirmation today of Riley Snow’s return for the upcoming season.

Snow, who has been on a rapid journey through the basketball ranks since switching codes from rugby a few short years ago, is set for his third season in orange.

“I’m super excited to be able to play another year for the Sharks and keen to keep learning off and improving with the new names coming in. To be able to work with Coach (Jonathan Yim) with the resume he has, I know provides a rare opportunity to develop my game and learn.”

“My focus during the off-season was strength and conditioning so I was in the gym a fair bit trying to get fitter and stronger. I was also doing some morning skill trainings which were finished off with some more conditioning. My aim is simply to keep improving and grow my confidence as a basketball player and if I can help us win more games in both Rapid League and the NBL and help build a winning culture then it’s going to be another great year,” Snow said.

Coach Yim is looking forward to working with Snow and is very aware of how quickly 19-year-old has taken to the game.

“Riley brings a tough, physical presence every time he steps on the court. He’s committed himself to getting in “elite shape” this off-season, and you can see the proof in the way he moves and competes. He’s put in the hours, stayed disciplined, and pushed himself to new levels.”

“Riley has a great work ethic and that has been evident through the first few weeks of workouts.  He’s willing to do the hard things without shortcuts. His dedication is real, his effort is consistent and I’m excited to see it pay off this season,” Yim said.

The Sharks formally assemble this week to begin training camp with their first on-court task early next month at the pre-season Westside Blitz in Greymouth early next month. The Sharks will play three games in four days against the Indian Panthers (4 March), Taranaki Airs (6 March) and Franklin Bulls (7 March).

The Sal’s NBL tips off the following week with the Sharks opening their 2025 campaign on the road in Dunedin against the Otago Nuggets on Friday 14 March. Season tickets are available at ILT Stadium Southland reception or online at sharksbasketball.flicket.co.nz.
