Ramage impresses to grab Sharks roster spot

The Southland Sharks have added another promising Southland basketball talent to its ranks for 2025, confirming Jack Ramage’s signing for the upcoming Sal’s New Zealand National Basketball season.

19-year-old Ramage has been a talent on the Eastern Southland basketball scene for a number of years and has been a fixture on the Southland representative scene since being selected for the Southland Under-19s in 2023 and his athletic ability immediately caught the eye of Sharks Head Coach Jonathan Yim pre-season.

“I’m excited to welcome Jack to the Sharks organization! Watching him on film, he stood out with his athleticism, shooting ability, and natural feel for the game. The coaching staff spoke highly of his potential, and after seeing him up close, it’s clear he has the tools to make an impact. His ability to play in transition, stretch the floor, and defend multiple positions makes him a great fit for our team.”

“Jack is the kind of player who gets better every day, and I am excited to be a part of his development. His potential is sky-high, and I believe he can be a key piece for us both now and in the years to come. I am looking forward to seeing his growth in a Sharks uniform,” Yim said.

Ramage shares his coach’s enthusiasm for the opportunity he has been presented with in 2025.

“I’m super excited for this opportunity to be a part of the Sharks and I couldn’t think of a better group of guys and staff to play with and learn off for my first season in the league.”

“It’s an awesome opportunity being able to play under Coach Yim, the amount of knowledge and experience he has had throughout his career, I know this is the best opportunity for me to develop my game and learn everything he has to offer.”

“My goal for the year is to develop and learn as much as I can throughout the year and really grow as a basketball player and of course help us win where I’m needed,” Ramage said.

The Sharks tip off their season in Dunedin against the Otago Nuggets on Friday 14 March with their first of eleven home games against Manawatu Jets on Saturday 29 March. Season tickets are on sale now from ILT Stadium Southland or online at sharksbasketball.flicket.co.nz.
