Christchurch's Ben Hall is the latest player to sign on for the Southland Sharks' 2023 New Zealand National Basketball League campaign.
The 1.96-metre small forward impressed many during last year's Schick 3X3 Cup in Invercargill where he was one of the competition's leading scorers playing for the West Coast Rapids and he is excited for his second stint in the Sal's NBL after playing for the Canterbury Rams in 2021.
"I'm looking forward to getting down south next week. Coach Guy (Molloy) reached out end of last year and we talked a few times on the phone. We watched some tape and I really liked the environment he's building down south and the culture he's creating and he just knows what he's talking about. I'm so glad that he reached out a few months later to say he was keen to get me down and it was an easy decision," Hall said.
Hall will join his new Sharks' team-mates in Invercargill this week as the squad assembles for its pre-season build-up where the 23-year-old is keen to make his mark.
"I can shoot the ball pretty well, am good at moving and cutting and always work hard on defence. I know I'm going to part of a group that wants to make a statement and can't wait to get amongst it and get some good results for our awesome fans," he said.
Molloy said Hall was a great fit for his 2023 roster.
“I’m very pleased to introduce Ben to the Southland Sharks. Ben has been on the fringe of making an impact in the NBL for a couple of years and he’s an exciting young player. His talent was on full display at the recent 3X3 nationals and he’s shooting ability and athleticism will make him a valuable member of the Sharks club,” Molloy said.
The Sharks commence their 2023 Sal's NBL campaign on Good Friday, April 7th against the Manawatu Jets at ILT Stadium Southland at 7:00pm. Season tickets to all nine home games are available now at ILT Stadium reception, while individual game passes will be on sale from Friday 17 March. For more information visit sharksbasketball.co.nz.
