Judd Flavell's emotional roller-coaster of an off-season started on August 6, just a day after he won the 2018 National Basketball League title with the Southland Sharks.
Following the celebrations a jaded Flavell joined a New Zealand select camp as an assistant coach.
Head coach Paul Henare had just been named coach of the Wellington Saints for the 2019 NBL season and he quickly drew the battle lines with one simple comment to Flavell.
