Another week, another big Sharks signing and another two SKYCITY Breakers wins. So just your average week then!
The Return of the Chief was confirmed this past week. We are so stoked to have Alex Pledger back for 2018. The big man is looking forward to coming back and he told us why here. So Reubs, Luke, James, Derone and Pledge are all locked in and we are not done yet.
Watch this space for more news over coming weeks (insert monkey covering mouth emoji).
Great to see all five of the boys above named in the Tall Blacks squad, with a shout-out to Southland-boy and former Shark Mitch Newton. A Breakers Development gig and now national selection. Somebody's obviously been impressing Mr Henare!
A great night on Thursday for the opening week of our Sharks Summer League. Two great games, the second going in to overtime, the first featuring a great comeback. The concept, driven by Coach Judd and our local Development Manager Dan Peck, is about giving locals a pathway to Sharks selection. If the first week is any indication, there is going to be some outstanding competition for spots - now and in the future. Check the wrap of the opening round here and images from Thursday night here.
We're on Court 1 at ILT Stadium Southland at 6:00pm and 7:30pm for the next four Thursday nights if you want a nosey. The perfect way to start getting fired up for 2018!
Now, what about that crazy finish to the Breakers game on Saturday night in Cairns?
Or as Chief so eloquently put it ...
The Breakers move alone at the top of the NBL table at 6-1, with a home-and-away match up with their old mates the Perth Wildcats this week.
Also great to see our Aussie Sharks Mitch and Nick playing key roles in the Hawks getting the win today in Sydney over the Kings.
Nick has really built into the season and finished today with 17 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists. Norto added 10 points of his own and controlled the tempo perfectly.
The Hawkheads who now sit fifth, are just a win outside the top four. Here's a sweet dish from Rotnei Clarke, who led all scorers with 29 today, for Nick to lay it in.
This time with two hands ...
Tongue-out. MJ style.
See you Thursday at Summer League Week 2. Fins Up!
